William Shakespeare is known as one of the greatest playwrights but rumor has it that he never intended for that to be. His life began well, in a way, unembellished, ordinary and rather easy. This means that his story didn’t begin with some life altering event that could be the reason William Shakespeare became Shakespeare. It was like any other but then darkness began to deepen it. This began to make his childhood almost bleak, which is something people tend to look over when reading his timeless pieces of literature. Along with that the first pieces that were found earlier weren’t ever made clearly enough to put into a chronological order. The world just has the plain understanding that William Shakespeare spent much of his time in London once he began working as a playwright and poet. This was seen as a sign of strain in his marriage to Anne Hathaway, who at the time, was 8 years older than him. “Shakespeare is today known primarily as one of the great English playwrights, however much of his literary reputation while alive rested on his poetic works.”(William Shakespeare, Columbia College). In the late 1580’s Shakespeare is believed to have started writing for the stage. Francis Meres was one of the first people to mention him at the end of his first century as a writer. Meres referred to Shakespeare as “the greatest man of letters of the day.”(Cousin). This gave his name a colossally large amount of value. He is remembered mainly for Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Shakespeare is great, to put simply. The reason is that in the time he was writing plays weren’t written to be published. Along with that he accidentally stumbled into fame.
