William Shakespeare was a historical figure born in the Renaissance period. He changed the way people viewed literature. His writing affected many people and still does even over 500 years later. He shocked people with his plays and how much emotion they had in them.
William was born in April 1564 to John and Mary Shakespeare. He was not born to a wealthy family. They lived in Stratford where John Shakespeare had moved five years before he married Mary. William was the oldest living of his siblings. His parents first two daughters died during infancy. William had three younger brothers; Gilbert, Richard, and Edmund. Two or more plays he wrote were first mis-credited until after his death and another play was only found after his death. Some of his more famous plays are, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar and many more. These plays are known worldwide. He was and to some still is the most popular dramatist and poet of the western world. He earned this fame because of how well he was able to summarize the range of human emotions. He is still very influential now even though some people may not know that he is. Many common terms and phrases that we use now come from his writings. Some examples of these are, “break the ice,catch a cold, elbow room, good riddance, in a pickle, eyeball,” and many more. Some interesting facts about William Shakespeare is that during 1585 and 1592 no one knows what he did. Also we may not spell his name correctly but if we don’t he didn’t either because there are over 80 ways his name could have been spelled. Shakespeare wore a gold hoop in his left ear and this trend might have been started by sailors who wore a gold hoop in-case they died at sea, the hoop was used to cover funeral costs.
