To what extent was the United States an influence on the defeat of Imperial Japan in World War II. World war II is a multi-nation included war that happened in the period from 1938 and 1945. The main nations that went against each other were Japan, Germany, and Italy going against the United States, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. In this case, it will be focusing on one of the theaters of war in World War II called the pacific war. The Pacific war started on December 7th of 1941, when the Japanese raided Pearl Harbor, an American military base, with a sneak attack. At the start of the Pacific war, Japan was on the run with very successful battles across the Pacific Ocean conquering many southeast Asian countries, although by the end of the pacific war, Japan was in critical condition and eventually lost to the United States on August 14th of 1945. Japan became the first and only country in the world to experience the atomic bombs detonating on August 6th and the 9th of 1945 on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This bomb had caused enormous damage to Japan with about 220,000 people dying by both bombs. Not only it caused many casualties, but it also had psychological effects on the Japanese people, and government. The bomb was not known before, and the ability of destruction that massive was very terrifying for the time. After the detonation, the Japanese people and government woke up from the forced nationalism and feared the power of the United States and understood the weapon can destroy the country. The nuclear bomb also called as “the winning weapon”, was the last push for Japan’s surrender, and with many casualties and losses piling up, the atomic bomb was not something Japan was able to take more than the two detonated.
