War is defined as a conflict going on between different people or countries. Through-out history, America has involved itself in many different wars. Two of the biggest wars fought, World War I and World War II, left millions of people dead or injured. World War I and World War II began with specific events between two groups of countries, used different technologies, and brought varying results.
Many different countries involved in both wars. World War I pitted the Central Powers against the Allies. The Central Powers contained Germany, Austria-Hungry, and Turkey. The Allies consisted of Great Britain, Japan, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States (Showalter, 2017). Using these aspects of war together caused a great impact on the fighting. The side using them could push back the enemy into their trenches which could ultimately help the other side take control of the battle. Although that is one outcome that could happen, the side still stuck in their trenches could fight and possibly gain control of the battle (Showalter, 2017). According the the article written by Dennis Showalter, “… war was looked upon by many leaders in 1914 as a contest of national wills, spirit, and courage,” (2017). Sometimes the outcome of the battle can be determined by the side not willing to back down.
Another new element that came into play during World War I was the use of the airplane. This advancement had many uses during the war. The military used them for battles that took place in the air, to move supplies to different places, to move people from one location to another, and communication. Sometimes airplanes would take messages and communicate them to another group of people. World War II also had many different countries involved. The Central Powers changed their name and became the Axis powers. During World War II, the Axis powers included Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allies involved France, the United States, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and China who contributed little (Hughes, 2017). Like World War I, America attempted to stay neutral in World War II. They were able to stay that way for about two years until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, America declared war (Lee,
