A Little Taste of the Past
Throughout history, nothing has been more devastating and as destructive as war. The World War I began in 1914 and it ended in 1918. Countries in Europe and outside of Europe were involved in the war. Throughout and after the war it affected the society and the economy badly. So much people were killed due to diseases and lack of food.
The World War I started when the leader of Austria-Hungary Franz Ferdinand was assassinated and the Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for the assassination and issued a series of ultimatums. Using ultimatums Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Austria-Hungary also wanted Russia to support them but instead, Russia supported Serbia and because of this Austria-Hungary were mad but Germany

The Treaty of Versailles demanded reparations from Germany for starting. Germany was being blamed for starting the war, so they have to pay all the damages after the war (Aldcroft). Injustice is illustrated because the terms of the treaty showed no mercy to Germany because they had to pay reparations, lost their colonies and they were demilitarized. Killing Charlie showed injustice because Charlie perceived authority as a challenge; an opportunity to fight against injustice. Charlie died because he disobeys an order from Sergeant Hanley (Morpurgo 192). The death of Charlie symbolized a great injustice because choosing between following the rules of authority and loyalty showed weaknesses that lead his death. Germany is using submarines to sink all the ships including American in the war zone, so President Wilson gave a speech. Wilson said that the German submarine policy was “warfare against mankind” and said that the world uses to be safe for democracy” (Wilson). The significance of this speech is to stop Germany from bombing the ships because it's killing so many people and ask the Congress to recognize a state war between Germany and the United States. Throughout World War I so much people died especially the militaries who joined the war. The percentage of militaries died from the war (World War I- Deaths By Alliance). European nations especially Germany want to expand economically and politically in the Middle East to become more powerful. Great powers like Britain, France, Russia and also Germany want to expand in the Middle East (Outbreaks of World War 1- Did Germany Cause World War 1?). The importance of this is to illustrate Germany wanting and owning more land caused a World War to occur since everyone wants to own other people’s land. Since there was so little land left for European empire to expand they used Africa and Asia land. Europe pays a lot of money to expand and modernize their armies and they did it in Africa and Asia (Coetzee and Shevin-Coetzee 16). Imperialism is illustrated through European powers establishing their political, military, economic, and cultural dominance in both Africa and Asia. Germany and France fighting for a territory led to a bad feeling towards each other. Germany and France almost went to war with one another with each over claims to Morocco on two occasions (Markle). France and Germany managed to settle, however the compromises both dissatisfied and this caused and underline and distrust for each other, causing them to be enemies and be at war with one another. European empires attempting to expand in the early 20th century meant that there was already an aura of animosity in Europe which made it a lot easy for countries to join the conflict that erupted as a result of
