World War 1 began July 28th, 1914. The start of the war was based on the devotion of the Slavic people in Bosnia and Herzegovina to terminate being part of Austria-Hungary and be become involved in Serbia. In this way, nationalism led directly to World War 1. The nationalism of the multiple countries throughout Europe contributed not only to the start but the prolongation of the war in Europe. Each country tried to prove their dominance. World War 1 was a time bomb waiting to blow. Imperialism, alliances, militarism, and nationalism made up the bomb. But the match that lit the wick was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Austria-Hungry immediately blamed the Serbian government for the attack. Austria-Hungry knew that Serbia had the support of Russia on their side so they gotten help from Germany in case Russia or any of its allies such as France and Great Britain. Germany could not expand because they were surrounded on every side by powerful countries; Germany demanded for more but could not get it which played a big part in World War 1. It was basically a race, to expand on territory and technology and become the better nation than any other country. Germany, France, and Great Britain went head to head to create the world’s best empire. Imperialism causes Germany to ally with Austria-Hungary, and Britain to ally with France. These countries formed on what they had to build an empire while the other nations were expanding in order to prepare for what is going to come. Germany looked to expand East but was forced to expand West where the borders weren’t as secure so they could dominate and take over the surrounding
