I think this unit was great and in all honesty should have been longer. We covered so many important topics that should be discussed with High School students to prepare them for the future. I think it helped me open up more to things that I didn’t really know about beforehand. The discussions that we had in class were also another very helpful tool that we should have had more of during the unit. I definitely had some preferences on the books that we read this semester.

Being in English 101 has impacted three different types of writing processes: drafting, revising, and editing. Before I started this class, I never made drafts; I only did pre-writes and the final copy of the essay. Now, I do the pre-writes, then type it and make the draft, and then fix any errors in it. Another writing process that has improved is revising because now instead of reading what I wrote myself, I let my friends, classmates, and teachers read it to see if they understand what I’m writing and if they see any errors. This makes my editing process easier because I know what mistakes I made.
A fair amount of us have experienced many important moments in our lives and learned or changed because of them. How would you live your life after that? In the book Whirligig, the moment that changed Brent’s entire life was when he killed Lea. He would always live with the guilt of being a murderer, but he may be able to move on. Another part of the book where a character’s life has been changed from one moment was when Jenny drove her grandmother around San Diego to let her revisit past memories of her life.
I am excited to be joining the ESL 83. I am particularly interested in traveling to the new places and listening music. These make to me better feeling, and new challenges let me do many new expressions that helpful in my live. I am taking this class to use fluently and correctly English that help me more comfortable America live. I look forward to everyone get good grade to finish the this course.
My experience in English 1010 was great. My writing skills were very poor at the beginning of the semester. I did not know how to write correct sentence structure. I had great difficulties making my sentences flow smoothly and clearly. I was not able to edit a paragraph for mistakes in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
I have made many connections with MAT 139 this semester. When I was in the tutor program we were required to get some field experience by helping students. I chose to help three and four year olds with math. Although the material was adding, I was able to apply the skills I learned in the tutor program to teach the kids. My teacher in MAT 139 would show us multiple ways to solve a problem so when teaching the children I would use more than one method to get them to learn the subject matter (Hammond, pg 2).
Everyone needs to struggle in order to preform better. Writing has always been a strength of mine, but I found it a challenge to move from the high school, six-paragraph essay format that I had grown accustomed to. Throught the course of this semester, I was able to acquire many different skills in ENG 1101 that have helped me transition into more complex writing. These include various writing techniques, MLA formatting, writing for purpose, convincing my arguments and finding and properly using sources. The portfolio I have submitted is comprised of three works of writing that I completed for ENG 1101 over the last three months.
I am very thankful for the opportunity to intern at the Waterfront Public School and having the chance to work with two very different students with DD. This experience gave me a better understanding of how the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) employs DSWs and how they value our role within their classrooms. I was fortunate enough to work with a collaborative team of staff that encouraged my professional growth by allowing me to assess and implement new teaching strategies. This team also provided me with much needed feedback and criticism along the way, which I valued and learned from. In addition, this education support placement allowed me to fulfill many performance elements related to learning outcome seven of the DSW Program Manual.
Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course.
When it comes to writing I, for the most part have no clue on how to go about it. I have never exactly seen myself as a strong writer but there have been very few times where I would have said that my writing was weak. By no means do I think that I have the skills less than that of a high school student but at the same time, I wouldn’t go on to state I have the skills of an English major or even an English minor. That is my reason for taking WRT 098, I would like to improve my skills as a writer to at least the level a college student is supposed to be on as a freshman or maybe at an even higher level. My greatest fear about writing is that I try my best and it turns out to be one of those examples on what not to do in front of the class.
Overall, this quarter I was pleased with the number of pages that I read but I think the content could have been a bit better. My reading throughout the year has improved and I want to continue to make it stronger. In my final quarter, I hope to read some continue reading the amount of material but make it a little more challenging. Reading is a skill that is very important and I will keep pushing myself to become a stronger
The weekly reading assignments were very helpful. Some of the topics were great refreshers of common mistakes made when writing; these knocked some of the cobwebs in my mind loose. The other topics with sample writings gave me an idea of what to do. The instructor feedback and the revision recommendations were probably the most helpful tools in my composition process.
In my W2, the changes I made in my diet was to incorporate more vegetables and fruits. These not only provide fiber, which I was deficient in my WB1 but also different minerals and vitamins for a healthy diet. I also, added whole grains to my consumption of bread and pasta since I usually only ate regular white bread. Two major enriched fiber foods that I added in my perfect 3 days was beans and sweet potato which helped me overcome the deficiency of my WB1. To meet my goal of protein I had to add avocado, egg, cucumber, broccoli, liver, and raisins, all of these are high in protein which made me had more energy throughout my day.
After a semester of FYW, I realized that my writing gets better the more I write. In FYW we had papers and writing exercises that allowed my writing to improve. A big help also was The Field Guide to Writing, which allowed me to see examples of good writing, taught me how to write correctly, and was a source of great information for writing. Coming into this class I wrote a lot of music which helped my writing as well but it was not formal writing so the transition to scholarly writing was hard because I looked over a lot of mistakes when writing papers for school. Due to FYW and the help of my class mates peer evaluations helped me overcome that issue.
