Technology is a big part in today’s society. But people usually do not recognize the people who helped evolve it. The Wright brothers were two men who helped develop the advanced technology the world has today. They did a lot of things in their lives, but a few of their inventions were really important. The Wright brothers were important because they invented the first airplane. The Wright brothers were born to Milton Wright and Susan Catherine Koerner. Wilbur was the oldest out of the seven Wright children. He was born in Millville, Indiana on April 16, 1867. Orville was the middle child and was born on August 19, 1871 in Daytona, Ohio (Alchin). Both Brothers had a liking for science and anything that had not been invented (The Wright Brothers). Orville was more outgoing and friendly. In the United Brethren Church, Their father was a bishop and both parents encouraged their children in education and respect (Alchin). The name of their first plane was named The Flyer. This was the first invented aircraft, but it did not travel very far (Famous Scientist). In 1904, the brothers assembled the Flyer II with a forty foot wingspan and fifteen to sixteen horsepower engine (Public Broadcasting Service). Their Flyer II engine was not strong enough to lift off the ground without the help of very powerful wind. They fixed the problem with a catapult using a ternick that powered by weight (Wright Brothers Biography). The flyer III had a 40ft wingspan with a 20 horsepower engine. The farthest flight was 24 miles and took 39 min. After modifications to the flyer III they could make figure 8s. 1905 the rebuilt flyer III became the world's first practical plane. The Wright brothers even managed to make their own company. There was 16 crashes and several injuries during the Orville’s flight career
