It was no surprise to me to realize that my writing process revolves around comfort and warm drinks. I’ve always been a fan of the cozy, of the warm and comfortable, so it made sense that when it came to sitting down and writing an essay, those preferences would follow.
The first thing I do when I want to start an essay is make some tea. It’s a routine I picked up from my mother, and just the habit of getting the tea out of the cabinet and putting the kettle on starts to switch my mind’s train of thought from every day life into a goal-oriented mindset that’s perfect for writing an essay. The tea, and the over-sized sweatshirt I like to wear, help me settle into an afternoon of writing and editing whilst being comfortable and and content. Along with the tea, another helper of my creativity is music; I use a lot of movie soundtracks while I write, or relaxed acoustic songs. It puts me in a content mindset, ready to focus, write, and be creative. …show more content…

I tend to prefer calmer places, without too many other people or distractions. Most commonly, I’ll end up lying across my bed, stretched out on my quilt with my laptop in front of me. The white walls and cozy atmosphere of the room allow for a comfortable and quiet place to focus solely on my essay, without outside noise or movements of other people catching my attention. The solitude helps keep my train of thought on track, and allows me to dive right into writing. Sometimes though, the house is busy, and it’s harder to focus even in a quiet room when noise leaks through the door. So, bank account permitting, I’ll try to stop in at a coffee shop in downtown Poulsbo and write there for a little while. While it can busy in the morning, the late afternoon atmosphere is nice and calming, and a cup of coffee doesn’t hurt for writing,
