Hi everyone! I’m Jess Cable and I am going to share my journey to becoming a Phi Mu today. To fully understand my story, we are going to start with my sophomore year in high school. Without going into too many details, I was teased in high school over silly rumors made about me. I lost many friends, but found my true friends. I learned many things about myself through this difficult time, but I also learned to be content with having 1-2 people supporting me. When I began college, I was still content with this. Since I am a commuter, I came to school, went to my off-campus job, and went home. I was alone. I had acquaintances on campus, but I had not let anybody into my true circle. I spent time with my boyfriend and my family I was content with this.
I began to see other people finding their places on campus, I put on a strong face and learned the best advice I could receive, which was, “fake your confidence because nobody can tell the difference.” Even though I may have looked happy and confident on the outside, I knew I was not happy. Even though I pushed my high school traumas to the side, they were still affecting me and to even think about that time upset me, so I avoided thinking or speaking about it. …show more content…

I became an FYS Fellow and an Orientation Leader. By being an OL, I became great friends with Michelle Anderton, and for this I am forever grateful. Michelle and I became very close through classes we had together. I watched her as she went through the process of becoming a Phi Mu, and how she transformed from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. She has been with me through my rough days, she has made me laugh at the worst times, and even though she has a crush on my brother, she was always there for me when he was at Air Force Basic
