Autism is a mental disorder characterized by weak social interactions, weak verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted and repetitive behavioral patterns. Autism affects the way the brain process data by changing the neuron connecting points. Until this day, it is not totally understood. Leo Kanner was known to be the first one to discover Autism in 1943. The cause of Autism is not known, and it cannot be referred to a specific cause. It usually starts at an early age. At the age of three, symptoms are clear, and it can be diagnosed by a specialist. The symptoms vary from one person to another because Autism is a wide-spectrum disorder. 1 1-2 children per 1000 may have Autism, and it occurs about four times more often in girls than boys. In addition, the number of people diagnosed with Autism has been increasing day after day since 1980s.
There are some symptoms that might indicate if the child has Autism or not. It is the parents' duty to watch out for these symptoms. After that, he will register the child in sensory integration therapy. Sensory integration therapy is a course that helps the child to use his body language properly.
