When considering the reason why I myself am a leader, I think back on one of my favorite books when I was younger. Dr. Seuss “I can read with my eyes shut.” This was one of my favorite books growing up because my mom always read it in this super funny voice, But now looking back on the book I realized it spoke about one of the biggest factors of a leadership in my opinion. The book is all about the cat in the hat sharing all the cool ways he can read to a little cat. He talks about reading upside down and on top of things, than he says how he can read with his eyes shut. He says he does not do it often because it hurts and burns, then he goes on to give all the reason why keeping your eyes open is better than keeping them shut. Dr. Seuss writes this amazing simply line in this book that captures what a leader is and my own quality in this book. He says, “You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut”, this simply line speaks directly to leadership to me. It is not about who the loudest is or the most seen, or even opinionated. I always viewed a leader as someone who is very vocal, strong, and noticed, or even heard. Than after thinking about it I realized that what makes someone a leader is not always what they say, it is there awareness and the way they live; And that is what makes me a leader. I might not always have a comment and, like most times people will not care much for my comment when I make it but that does not make me any less of a leader. I am an observer, I people watch; and am very careful with my dealings, I am aware of those who are around me and the thoughts words plant in peoples minds.
