While he dictated, the culture of Germany was changed. Hitler wanted to make the population all think and be one certain way. To make this happen he made, “ Musical performances, movies, and other cultural public activities...all meant to make German’s brains exactly like the Nazi, eliminating any other thought of anti-government”(1). By controlling what people watched and read, Hitler brainwashed Germans to think positively of him and the Nazi’s. The population was not able to freely read or watch any sort of literature or other arts.

Children during the Holocaust were targeted because they were weak and small, and the Nazis wanted strong and independent Jews who were willing to work, but some children were strong and were able to work in labor camps. The lives of children inside the camps grew up with the grim memories of being separated from loved ones by death and torture. Hitler’s goal was to destroy a whole entire race and by targeting the kids, this would be a faster way of killing many innocent Jews. We Were Children, the documentary on residential schools, is a re-enactment of two aboriginal children and their first hand experiences in the residential school system. The kinds of problems this documentary presented include mistreatment faced by the children who attended these schools, corruption and scandal inside the administration of the schools, and the false perception about these schools that resonated amongst Canadian society. These two children talk about the bullying they had to endure from the nuns which show that the children were not seen as equal to a child of non-Aboriginal decent. Furthermore, the types of abuse administration would put these kids through was immensely disturbing considering this was a state run institution.

When the Nazi party came to power in 1933, they saw the education system as a way to shape young minds of children to create a future generation of upstanding citizens in Germany. They made many significant changes to the education system to align it with their ideology. Since the nazis were such a quickly growing force of power they were able to manipulate their way into changing the school system for young children being raised in Germany. Children were taught to treat Jewish People worse, physical education was most important and women’s education changed significantly, and children were taught the Fuhrer's race is the purest and to spread Nazism.
The ingrainment of these fascist ideals on almost the entire youth population, gave Germany and Japan assurance that the coming generations would be compliant with whatever their government decided. Germany and Japan used school settings to indoctrinate the concept of racism being acceptable, furthering the ultra-nationalist ideals of the children. In Germany it was normal to teach biased ideals, ideals that were approved by the government. In an article named “A is for Adolf” it states, “Indoctrination within schools covered a number of issues and paved the way for the youth’s acceptance of Nazi policies: among them the superiority of one race over the other”. This demonstrates that these kids were taught at an early age that racism was appropriate.
By getting the youth of Germany to believe in Hitler's ideas the propagandists produced a new generation of people with the ideas and beliefs of Hitler implemented into their heads, making them easier to control. Of course there was also many German citizens in Germany, so in order for the propagandists to get their ideas across they would need to make sure their ideas were able to get to each and every citizen. This meant the propagandist had to use every form of Propaganda to control people. They used posters, songs, Radio, Films, Newspapers, and books. These forms of Propaganda worked exceptionally well due to people being constantly exposed to these forms of propaganda anywhere they went, making it very easy to brainwash the german citizens with their ideas.
In Nazi Germany, books were removed from classrooms by censors and textbooks were rewritten, after-school meetings of the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls trained children to be faithful to the Nazi party. In both countries, teachers taught students blind obedience to the party, love for Hitler & Big Brother (who were both dictators), and anti semitism. In school and out, young people celebrated such occasions as their ruler’s birthday and the anniversary of his taking power. Corrupting children is a key component for a government to stay in power because when the corrupted children grow up , they will grow up to be trained to be obedient to the government and tell the police if they witnessed any crimes. For example, Winston’s next door neighbor, Parsons; had children who were trained by the government to report any suspicious activity and to have blind obedience to the Party.
