The article I am using I found on the internet it is a scholarly article from the website Tides, Inc. The author Mary Mwangi is a doctor, educator, and a tutor who has a keen insight into the benefits of diversity in education. The title of the article is called, “5 benefits of diversity in a 21st-century classroom”, Dr. Mwangi expresses the importance of different ideas coming for different individuals (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012). She expresses the importance that just adding different students is not enough of a benefit you must nurture the differences to be successful (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012). Mwangi identifies is diverse skills, in which she discusses the importance of different skills coming together in teamwork to accomplish great things (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012). Her example is a 21st-century classroom will have diverse challenges and who best to help with these challenges than for creative and diverse minds to assist with differences (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012). She also points out that because of the diverse student in the classroom these challenges are met in a variety of unique way because of the student’s expertise in different areas because of their life experiences (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012). I believe this is true everyone has something different they bring into the classroom because of their differences. This is an explanation that when team members in a group of students become discourages they are motivated by other team members that handle the situation in a positive way (5 Benefits of Diversity, 2012).
