Negatives Of Diversity In The United States

Diversity has sparked major controversy in the United States of America. It has impacted and shaped the United States, some say for the better while others say for the worst. Society has come a long way from what it was over 50 years ago with the segregation of schools and blatant racism that spread throughout the country. Diversity is often not taken as seriously as it should be and is not seen as a problem. Diversity plays a big part in education towards young students and can result in having more negative effects as the student progresses through their schooling. It could be argued that society has caused diversity to become a problem among education. When students don’t have an even number of diversity within the teachers to students, it is better for students to be prepared for the multicultural society that we live in.

Creating an even playing field for all student of ethnic backgrounds promotes respect and appreciation for other cultural differences. Many students need to feel like they are accepted among the peers and when they come from different backgrounds, it could be harder for them to have a sense of pride in how they were raised. When students feel comfortable about where they come from, they start to gain more self-confidence within themselves. They often become less afraid to talk about what values that are instilled in them. Once one student becomes comfortable enough to talk about their ethnic background it will cause ripple effects like other students to talking about where they came from.
