“Abe Buys a Barrel” by Mary Nygaard Peterson tells the story of young Abraham Lincoln who owns a general store located in New Salem Illinois, 1833. Throughout the story, Lincoln has many interactions with customers, which ultimately have a big impact on him. The interactions between Abe and his customers reveal that he is friendly, impulsive, and generous. He is friendly when telling his customers that he enjoys their company, Impulsive when he decides to buy a barrel, and generous and he always customers to make themselves feel at home.

The Real Lincoln “contains irrefutable evidence that a more appropriate title for Abraham Lincoln is not the Great Emancipator, but the Great Centralizer.” (xiii). DiLorenzo’s book examines the effects of Abraham Lincoln’s real intentions pertaining to political and economic purposes. In addition, the book also focuses on his true intentions toward slavery as well.
While he was not born in a log cabin, he was born in Tennessee, very very poor. He also built himself from the ground-up using slaves to help his business and profit himself. Lincoln did not even have the opportunity to do this, as Virginia was a free state and he would not have even seen slaves around. However, the negative views toward African-Americans still persisted everywhere, so even though Lincoln was not as extreme as Forrest, he also believed in keeping the races separate. Lincoln never acted with hate.
I would recommend this book to someone who is into history and Abraham Lincoln. Growing up I used to think Abraham Lincoln was cool and inspiring. This book has helped me realize who Lincoln was. This book is really good at going into details from every aspect of Lincoln 's life. This book starts from the very beginning to the the very end of Lincoln.
