Since ancient times of man, architects have taken on a crucial role in the development of human history and still continue to do so. Every structure on this planet has a story to tell and a designer behind it, which is why i have taken an interest in becoming an architect. After comparing The University of Texas Austin, The University of Houston, and The University of Washington based on my criteria of tuition, major and area, The University of Texas Austin would be the best choice in helping me pursue a career in architecture. After all, UT’s architecture program is ranked the 9th best school of architecture in the country, and teaches various fields of architecture from preservation to urban planning.

To have a better chance of acceptance into UTSOA, it is best to challenge oneself academically, “The school of architecture does not impose additional requirements. however, we recommend that high school students take AP courses or IB courses (if available) including physics and calculus” (UTSOA). UTSOA offers 6 different areas of specialization which “...placed UTSOA in top 10 for both undergraduate (4) and graduate (10) architecture programs” (UTSOA). Out of the 6 different areas the ones of interest to myself are, sustainable design and urban design. “The University of Texas School of Architecture believes in the value of the design, studio model, student learning encourages dialogue, collaboration, risk-taking, innovation and learning by doing…”(Texas). Furthermore, after extensive research it is deduced the UTSOA is a great if not best choice to receive the proper education in architecture, its programs sound appealing and provide an understanding of the career in general, as expected from a school ranked 9th in the
