My time here at the University of California, Santa Cruz has been one of the most interesting times of my life. I have learned so much, both academic and socially. I am a business management economics major and I am looking to go into the marketing industry. The problem is that at UC Santa Cruz, there is not a marketing curriculum. There is only one class that is offered, and it is pretty rare when that class comes around. However, I have used the other Econ and Business classes to further my education when it comes to the actual business aspect. I have taken additional classes online from different sites, for instance, Alison, coursera, and edX. These have all been helpful giving me a baseline on what marketing consists of, but nothing beats the actual experience. That is why this year I have been constantly searching for internships within the marketing industry so I could get my feet wet within the field. I am lucky enough to have had a marketing position during this year of my college career, in which I was one of the marketing coordinator of the NCAA sports on campus. From the research that I have done on my own, I have been able to have some success while in that position. I was able to increase the women’s volleyball attendance by 583% with the implementation of the contest, “Battle of the Colleges”. I was also the outreach coordinator for the Black Man’s Alliance, in which I was able to break an attendance record for our annual dance with a count of over 300. This summer I have been lucky enough to secure an internship with American Honda this summer operating as a marketing communications
