My field of study within Cal Poly Pomona is Business Management with a Human Resources concentration. I first became interested in this field of study from my past experience of serving in the United States Marine Corps. While serving in the Unites States military, I was required to attend a small unit leadership course known as Corporals Course. This military leadership course focused on effective team building, individual mentoring, and motivational concepts. Shortly after completing this leadership course, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the age of twenty-two.

I felt that my past military experience could play a critical role within today’s business environment. I quickly realized that most management officials held degrees from respected accredited colleges.
I ended up enrolling in Riverside Community Colleges. While attending Riverside College, I received two associates degree. The first Associates degree I received was in Business Administrations with a Logistics Concentration. This degree was awarded with distinction. The second Associates degree that I received was in Administration and Information Systems. This degree was awarded with great distinction. After completing the required courses, I was able to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona to finally fulfill my educational goal of management.
Throughout my education career, I realized that I needed to work to pay for the high cost of tuition, supplies, and books. I ended up applying for the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Office. I’m currently employed fulltime and go to school part time. I use this employment as an opportunity to exercise my past leadership skills and current educational teachings to mentor veterans, and their dependents, on time management, employment strategies, and school success.
