Being able to assist, lead, and teach valuable lessons to other people were the main reasons I loved playing football. I vividly remember joining my high school the football program as a freshman and idolizing all the upperclassmen. They were so big, strong, fast, and everything they said came off as gospel. Over the next three years, I loved my time in the program. I grew so much as a teammate, leader, and student. While I grew up in the suburbs, my parents always made me feel like Detroit (not Troy) was my hometown. I root for Detroit teams, wear Detroit clothing, and visit the city’s museums, sports venues, and restaurants with my family on a regular basis. My parents used to take us for car rides up and down both Woodward and Jefferson Avenues from the suburbs all the way downtown. They used these trips to try and teach us to be grateful for our environment and empathetic for the environments of others.
The city of Detroit has had major economic struggles over the past 50 years. However, ever since Detroit emerged from bankruptcy in 2014, the core of the city has been involved in an economic boom due to private investment by wealthy families and cooperation between the city and state

My family and I go downtown now even more than ever and I can see improvement every time we go. The private investments of Dan Gilbert, the Ilitch family, and Pete Karmanos have been able to create jobs in the downtown area. The creation of jobs increases demand for housing, dining, and recreation within the downtown area. The private investments by business moguls have been successful but, it could not have been achieved without working with the city and state government efficiently. For example, the $862.9 million dollar investment into the new Little Caesars Arena could not have been completed without strong cooperation between business owners and the city and state governments.
