The greatest of all time. A title that most people in sports strive for, but also a title that is only held by a select number of people. It is something that sportscasters feed off of. They love to take athletes that played in different eras and pin them against each other in a debate of the best. One of the most heated debates is between Tiger Woods vs Jack Nicklaus to decide who is the greatest golfer of all time. Both golfers were the best in the world for an outstanding number of years, but picking a winner between the two, may depend on the person picking more than the choices. Tiger already has six more victories in eight less years, meaning Tiger has a clear edge in year by year performance. This sport is unique in the fact that the equipment had dramatically changed form Nicklaus' era to Woods' era. Woods uses far superior clubs and balls, meaning Woods should hit is farther, straighter and have more control. Nicklaus on the other hand was able to do the things he did, with worse clubs. He overcame clubs and golf balls with an amazing sense of how to play the game, that may never be matched. Woods had better clubs, but he should not be punished. Everyone he plays against plays with the better clubs, meaning, it may not be on level terms with Nicklaus, but it is on level terms with his competitors. Because Woods never had to play with poor clubs Nicklaus has to get a slight edge in this area. Clubs and balls were not the only thing different in the eras. Another major difference is media attention. Golf in Nicklaus' era has not quite caught national attention like in Woods' era. Nicklaus had media to deal with, but nothing like Woods.
