At the age of ten being raised by minority parents was very difficult for me at the time. At the age of ten I was forced for my English and Spanish vocabulary to be very proficient due to always translating for my parents. At that age learning both languages was annoying, frustrating, and difficult; however that experience shaped me to be a proficient bilingual nurse present and gain benefits by being bilingual. The benefits where the many open job opportunities with the increase pay. This experience also assisted to raise my daughter to speak and write both languages actively although just not the way my parents forced it on me.
I was born in Guadalajara Jalisco and raised on a small ranch called Atemajac de Brizuela. My dad left when I was small kid, but came back when I was three years old. One year later my sister was born. Once my sister was born my dad decided to come to the United States because he knew that he had better opportunities here than in Mexico. Four years after that I came to the U.S.A at the age of nine not knowing a single word of English.
PGCE personal statement What motivated me to choose teaching is my passion for mathematics, which I have always found beautiful, exciting and constantly challenging. I was introduced to the subject through puzzles and games, much like Gardner’s column in the Scientific American, during a class of recreational mathematics called “Fun Mathematics”. The feeling of exhilaration has stayed with me ever since and if there is one thing I would like to impart to children, that would be it. My first experience of working with children was gained while volunteering for a humanitarian project in rural Mozambique, where among other things, I prepared, organised and delivered sports and educational activities for children aged 5 to 16.
My rationale for going to Australia, simply stated, is a second chance. I remember when I was younger, having all these dreams for myself that included traveling, education, and career. My dreams, at times, felt over ambitious, even for me. There was a part of me that believed that dreams such as mine only happened to other people. Others are able to achieve their dreams because of who they are and what they are committed to creating, that was my mindset then.
My parent though I had ADHD and took me to hospital when I was five years old. I had hard time during classes on sitting on my chair quietly, all though I had high scores on my tests, I was always the “problem student” in the class. One of my elementary school teachers, suggested my parent help me find my interest. Therefore, most time in my childhood was learning things: Chinese traditional musical instrument, ballet, modern dance, painting, and calligraphy. Apparently, I did not get into any of these fields, but I did do way better in class because of all those energy consumptions.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always known what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to help people and make the world a better place. Growing up the daughter of a pastor, my parents taught me what it meant to serve. Not in an oppressive way, but in a way, that ironically liberated me. Through them and my relationship with God, I was able to realize that servitude is not about submitting yourself to the will of others, but being an example of what Jesus Christ, himself came to do.
Endurance, motivation and dedication were a few words that made up the foundation of my career as a student athlete. These words arose in any and every situation possible. From the classroom to the football field, these three words haunted and shaped me in to the person I am today. Anything and everything I participated had these three concpets behind it, perfection was the goal in every situation of my life. I had always lifted weights growing up, it was who I was as an individual.
Growing up, I was always told that in order to make a good living, I had to first do well in school. If I focused on my studies, I would then be accepted into a good college, and by repeating the process, I would be able to get a good job. I lived the majority of my life to this idea, and still to this day dedicate my time to insure that I do well in school to make sure that I can have a good future. I worked my way into classes that would challenge and keep me engaged, taking the course with the most rigorous courses that met the requirements for the schools highest degree. I made sure that I remained on the honor role, and any mistake that I made along the way I was determined to correct.
I am a mature student just finished diploma of Information Technology at University of Technology Sydney (UTS): Insearch, a program provides direct entry into 2nd year bachelor studies at UTS. I enrolled on this particular course with the view that it will help me achieve the skills as well as the qualification I need to begin my University career. When I was younger, I had planned to become an IT professional and I took Information Processes and Technology and Software Design and Development as part of my Higher School Certificate. I left education due to financial problem and found a job in retail. After relatively rapid career progression, I am now employed as Duty Manager in one of the largest Australia supermarket chain, Woolworths.
1) I would describe myself as being a funny, hardworking, friendly, loving, and happy person. I can be shy at times but I enjoy helping people. 2) My educational background and work experiences have prepared me to be a part of your university by pushing myself to be the best I can be. I know time management is a major key to success between school and the work place. 3) From my perspective, to be a part of this university would mean that all my hard work will have paid off and I can succeed even more.
Within my life, I have had my share of accomplishments, both for academics and recreational activities. I have been obtained numerous awards and received recognition in many fields. From the arts to athletics, leadership skills to community involvement, academics to recognition within my own class, I have created a collection of rewards and accomplishments. However, I can sincerely admit that none of these achievements have been a reflection of my natural talents. These rewards do not demonstrate any form of inherent dexterity or ability.
When I first recieved this application before I filled anything out, I looked at what the writing prompt was. I became overjoyed at the fact that I had the choice between a more global stance and a more personal approach to write about. This due in part because I am a person of many facets. With that being said something that really matters to me is how my academics and family life intertwine. I take much pride in how I’m becoming a more well-rounded person because of that.
As Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.” I feel that in a world where the markets are changing rapidly, we need to be able to adapt and grab a hold of opportunities that come our way. Throughout high school I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Business Studies as it has enabled me to understand how different organizations work.
I am destined to seek a career in research, telecommunication industry and teaching. My research interest is towards wireless communication, optimisation algorithms, game theory, signal processing related to future 5th generation (5G) cellular technology and heterogeneous wireless networks. The research intends to develop wireless communication protocols for 5G systems. Given my academic background and skill set I believe I will be an apt addition in Melbourne University research team. I am honored of the fact that I would get an opportunity to work with ARC sponsored project at Melbourne University.
