So far in AP Language and Composition, we have learned how to critically analyze texts using rhetorical and literary analysis. I feel comfortable with literary analysis because of how frequently and often I have been doing it in the past couple of years. Regarding rhetorical analysis we have learned diverse types of appeals used in rhetoric, appealing to a reader’s emotions using pathos, an ethical appeal using ethos, or appealing to a reader’s logic using logos. These skills and concepts are completely new to me and I am still beginning to understand how to use these appeals in my writing strategically. However, I feel more confident in finding these appeals in other rhetorical texts, including ads and speeches, because of how much practice
She contributed by writing her own questions and the cross-examination questions for Miss Ivane with Anna. I thought Megan, Jess, and Aneesa did a great job at memorizing their character and answering the cross examination questions during the trial. I wrote the cross-examinations for Bertha and Professor Howe, as well as the closing statement. I also reviewed the direct questions and answers to ensure they could not be objected too. We all finished our work in a timely manner during the class work time, or had our assigned parts completed to discuss.
Adonay has made his best effort to focus at his work in the classroom. His reading has slow progress throughout the year. Although, he reads most-text specific vocabulary, he still needs to decode unfamiliar words using appropriate strategies like blending and segmentation. It is also beneficial to develop his self-correction strategy by attending to meaning while he reads a text. Adonay finds challenging to interpret a text he reads as he struggles to access independently some additional meanings from a text.
Chapter Two In Chapter 2, the author expresses that it is okay to make mistakes. I agree with the author, but I have a hard time practicing it. The author also provides a permission list of what we should allow ourselves to do.
The task at hand is to alter an English synthesis essay with a prompt dealing with coming of age from the female perspective into a history research paper dealing with coming of age through different centuries and how the social, economic, and political expectations in that time period impacted the process of coming of age. In order to change the genre and discipline to fit the requirements of a research paper about history it will be essential to change the format from MLA to Chicago. The history paper will be an analysis rather than a critical thinking assignment and will need background information from reliable sources that provide sufficient proof. In order to write a successful synthesis essay, you must gather research on your chosen topic, discover meaningful connections throughout your research, and develop a unique
I needed to come up with different solutions to complete my project. I am really proud of my final product. The format and the newspaper style I made for my project took a lot of time and effort. This was actually one of my biggest problems. At first, I made the format for my newspaper which took a long time.
Before the 19th century, English was not considered a discipline and the purpose of it is still debated. Throughout the years, new cultural, social, and philosophical trends have influenced the way English is taught and studied. During module 1, different videos were shown, and several readings were assigned that helped me to relate all the material. In this synthesis essay, I will describe what I learned throughout the videos and the readings by making connections among them.
While reviewing my first memo the three main issues that I saw was the unnecessary use of verbiage, ineffective use of transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and remembering to completely flesh out each test in the rule proof. The most helpful thing I can do in to help myself is just to reread my paper multiple times and even maybe have my peers to look at my paper with fresh eyes. Being concise and to the point is clearly my biggest problem. I have started to edit my paper down multiple times on different days to cut down my extremely long and over complicated sentences. I also think that if I go sentence by sentence then it will be easier for me to cut down on the words that are not needed for the sentence to make sense.
2004 AP English Language & Composition Free-Response Questions: Question 1 In the 1746 letter to his young son, Lord Chesterfield asserts to his son the importance of taking the full advantage of education in achieving excellence through the usage of various rhetorical features such as understatement, irony, and rhetorical questions. Throughout the first paragraph, Lord Chester repetitively uses understatements to establish a tone of sympathy. By acknowledging that parental advice is often“ascribed to the moroseness, the imperiousness, or the garrulity of old age” in lines 3 to 8, Chesterfield seeks to build an illusion of understanding with his son, setting the scene to present his assertions in disguise of friendly advice.
The first activity is interactive to create a basic awareness of the nonverbal concept of touch. The students will be paired up in two and sit facing each other, although their eyes will be closed. The teacher will instruct the students to hold their hands up in front of them, and to touch flatly their partner’s hand. Keeping in mind their eyes are to remain closed and are supposed to use their hands to communicate throughout this entire activity, the teacher should instruct the students to say “hello” to their partner’s hands. Then instruct the students to have an argument, and afterwards have the pairs make up and say sorry.
1. What aspect of the project did you most value or appreciate? The aspects that I most valued and appreciated the most was researching about my chosen candidate and decorating/creating the poster. I have always admired Michelle Obama (my chosen candidate) as the First Lady from the way she spoke, but I did not know much about her. Thus, I really appreciated that this project required me to do in-depth research about her.
On September 10th, 2015, my fellow classmates and I entered into Mrs. Fountain’s room, unknowingly entering a room of despair. We had all forgotten that today was the day we would have to write our first AP Language essay. One of the main reasons we had forgotten was because we had been told, “There is no possible way for you to study. The only thing you can do is to come in prepared to write”. The day had started normally, laughter filling the room, with not a worry as to what would be asked of us.
Within this essay, I am going to talk about how I think our music video went and how we worked as a group to create it. I think as a group we worked well to get the music video done, being there a few instances where the group didn’t work very well either, this will be talked about within the essay as well, but I think as a group we worked well, our communication skills between us worked well in both working on documents and working on and off shoot, the group at the beginning didn’t communicate well with the client, we first gave the job of communicating with the client to one person to do, this turned 0out to not work as well as all of us being in touch with the client, which was done toward the end of the project. Once the client was on
For this excursion I experienced the local and historic Christian Science Society in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This society was created on July 22, 1908, by local Christian Scientists; some of which included the town founders, James and Margaret Crawford. After using a variety of meeting locations, the building which is still used today was built in 1934 of logs on a rubble rock foundation. Yet, the regulations of the Christian Science churches and societies entail that none can be officially dedicated until they are free of debt and therefore the Steamboat Springs society was dedicated the following year on December 15, 1935. When I entered the church I didn't have the slightest idea of what it meant to practice Christian Science or
