McDonaldization
An organization is a group of people that is responsible for structuring and managing the organization’s needs. Each organization has a management structure that is responsible to assign specific tasks to specific workers. Major tasks are divided into several sub-tasks where each will be assigned to a worker to carry out the given task(s). The assigned worker is responsible for completing a task within a given time, whereas, management is defined on how to make the available resources to be used effectively and efficiently. He introduced the concept of McDonaldization because of the rise of care management as a service delivery model on social work practice (Dustin, 2009). A social theorist like George Ritzer accepts the bias and the effects and it also allows non-social theorists to apply the social theory (Dustin, 2009). Modernity was categorized by a search of truth based on science and rationality for human knowledge and referred to as positivism (Dustin, 2009). In contrast to modernity, the postmodernity position ‘is that truth and meaning are context-dependent and predictable from a particular horizon or point of view, referred to as interpretivism’ (Dustin, 2009, p. 15). There are two categorizes of postmodern, being intellectual postmodern and material postmodern. Intellectual postmodern refers to the understanding of the world and the changes of the way in thinking amongst postmodernism (Dustin, 2009). The current changes such as globalization, market capitalism, technology revolution or improvement, reflects the fragmentation referred to as the postmodern material (Dustin, 2009). The United States of America is generally seen as the centre of modernity and involved in the exportation of profitability from the rest of the world. Credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa and America Express are based in the United States of America, but, some countries created their own credit cards such as BarclayCard from Great Britain and JCB from Japan. American credit cards are used to Americanize other societies and expand the consumer culture. Credit cards are used to purchase mass products in modern society as it can be used easily to purchase products in many countries (Ritzer, 1996).
