Ad Analysis: How Women Have Been Portrayed Differently Throughout the Years Women have been portrayed very differently throughout the years. They were really only used to advertise kitchen appliances such as mixers and utensils, and to respect the man. These days, they are being portrayed much differently. They are no longer used to only sell kitchen supplies. They are selling other things and usually don’t appear with a man. The old ads were very sexist, while the newer ads are a lot less sexist. My first ad is from the 1950s. This ad shows a man lounging on the bed and a woman is serving him food on her knees. The wording on this ad is “show her its a man’s world”. She serves him food on her knees and is willing to do everything for him because its a mans world. The second ad is more modern and shows the new role of women. They are capable of everything and can do anything. They are a lot more than that. The audiences for these two ads are very different. I would say that the audience for the first ad would be men and the audience for the second ad would be women.
They have very different target audiences because of what they are talking about. One is selling a product to men and saying that buying this product would make you feel more superior. The other ad is selling a product by pathos because it talks about how she wants them to grow up knowing that she is capable of anything and its brand name, Always, is clearly visible in the corner of the ad.
Another thing would be the clothing that the models are wearing in these advertising. While this may not seem like a terribly important part of advertising, it really is. The clothing worn by the woman in the first ad is very modest. It is a dress that goes all the way to her ankles and is also long sleeved. Not much skin is showing at
