Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is typically overlooked and misunderstood in adults. In most cases, adults remain undiagnosed which occasionally leads to depression, anxiety, and other psychological problems. The purpose of this proposal would be to educate college students that ADHD can be diagnosed in adults affecting their day to day living. Raising awareness about ADHD and its symptoms in adults through social media, guest speakers, and information posted throughout the college will inform and educate students about this overlooked issue. Creating a large platform throughout the campus and social media will be able to reach the intended demographic and get students talking about ADHD. If adults were more familiar with ADHD and its symptoms they would be more likely to recognize the symptoms within themselves and seek a professional diagnosis. Instead, undiagnosed adults go through life not knowing their full potential so they are left feeling unsuccessful, and incompetent. ADHD causes problems in school, work, relationships, and several other tasks. A student struggling with this undiagnosed disorder may feel they are not cut out for school or not smart enough due to the inability to focus, concentrate, or stay motivated. Given that ADHD is a newly recognized disorder the common beliefs associated with it are no longer true. Disproving notions such as ADHD being most commonly found in hyperactive adolescent boys and is often outgrown. Leading students to believe this disorder is primarily diagnosed in children.
