One of the noteworthy failures that I encountered was my performance in Advanced Placement English and Composition. I decided to enroll in course to challenge myself academically, following the philosophy of hard work ¬¬that my family imparted on me. Despite being deemed advanced in English, I did not relish the subject as I despised the plethora of answers that are characteristic of literature. Furthermore, I did not understand how multitudes of responses that can be legitimized with textual evidence and personal interpretations. I sought solace from my linguistic fears in mathematics where answers were firmly entrenched in rationality with a single response. The essay described the taxonomical practice of observing a fish as it parallels the analysis of a composition, and I became lost in the metaphors and symbolisms. As I read the essay, I became entrenched in the text, confounded by rhetorical strategies such as alliteration and similes and how their presence culminates with the themes of the piece to create a composition. As a result, my essay was riddled with contradictions and inadequacies in literary interpretation and insights. Furthermore, my horrendous penmanship distorted my writing and rendered it indecipherable to my teacher. Consequently, I received a mediocre score for my efforts, the lowest in my academic career. Accordingly, I became devastated as I alarmed with my linguistic performance. I began contemplating to abandon the course as I dreaded losing endless effort I invested that manifested in my immaculate GPA. However, I remembered the philosophy instilled in me as I realized that hard work and determination would assist me in my linguistic
