My role as a junior associate at Teramos Consulting as part of the Ametros Simulation was a fulfilling experience. The tasks that came equipped with this role led to skill development, the ability of problem solving and overcoming challenges, and providing experience that will be a substantial asset for future aspects of the course, along with future endeavors in my personal life.
At first, getting placed in the role of a junior associate was an overwhelming and brand-new feeling. I did not have experience in sending professional emails or analyzing content to advise decision-making. In ‘Task One’, Ametros resources provided in-depth video recordings for “social intelligence, email basics and etiquette, emotional intelligence, client introductions and communicative intelligence” (Ametros Learning Inc, 2017). These videos helped develop the overall communication standard that was used for the rest of the tasks. ‘Task Two’ and ‘Task Three’ on the platform had the most valuable resources as they introduced concepts of “persuasion, rhetorical argument, shared cognition and argument organization” (Ametros Learning Inc, 2017). Despite already having some persuasive and argumentative skills, the information was very helpful, as it revealed a different tone and format for the business memo, along with teaching how to create a “well-crafted and organized recommendation, with talking points for the client” (Ametros Learning Inc, 2017). The most challenging aspect of this project was picking the winning vendor for Crestover’s business. There were a few firms that met some of Crestover’s requirements, however, picking the one that met all their requirements best was a very difficult decision. This required substantial analyzation, something that I was not used to, as from an honest reflection, I tend to rush my readings. However, I referred to the textbook and understood the most important aspects of decision-making: “by extracting pertinent facts from information and interpreting those facts so that they relate clearly to the problem you are solving” (Meyer, C, 2017). A lot of times, it is forgotten that communication goes both ways. “Effective communication is less about talking and more about listening” (Robinson, Segal and Smith, 2015), rereading is similar to reading carefully. Rereading each vendor’s proposal finalized my decision process, and once I decided to dedicate some decent time and properly read each vendor’s pros and cons, I overcame this difficult decision making process. After “extracting, analyzing and critiquing” (Ametros Learning Inc, 2017) each vendor’s proposal, I narrowed down that
