The statement regarding relationship between health literacy and health status is quite telling and speaks to the importance of personal health records and the significance of engaged providers as it relates to implementation and adoption of personal health records. Communication is a critical part of the concept of a personal health record and must be properly utilized (Nelson & Staggers, 2018). It is particularly concerning when provider communication with patients is distorted or misunderstood; therefore providers need to be aware of the techniques and attitudes that they display during the communication process. Each party in the communication relationship has certain responsibilities and it is imperative that the provider interprets the given cues by the patients to continue or modify communication style if necessary (Arsith & Popa , 2017).
