The Klu-Klux-Klan was a white supremacist group that opposed “Reconstruction” and equal rights for freed slaves (Hook Exercise). They, to my standards, really would do whatever it takes to stop Reconstruction, even if it meant killing innocent people for that. John W. Stephens, a former senator from Caswell, was brutally murdered by none other than the Klu-Klux-Klan in a Grand Jury room (Doc. A Par.1). John W. Stephens was stabbed five to six times then even hanged on a hook in the same jury room.
The Ku Klux Klan first emerged in Pulaski, Tennessee following the Civil War. As we know today, the mere mention of the Klan triggers fear as the KKK is known for its various tactics of violence that came in the form if lynchings, murders, and mutilations. Following their emergence, the KKK were quickly symbolized and portrayed as the protectors of the South, following the defeat of the Southern states in the Civil War and the beginning of the period of Reconstruction by the federal government (Gurr, 1989, p. 132). During the 1920s, the KKK achieved its greatest political success and growth outside of the South. During this period, the membership of the Klan heavily expanded to the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Oregon, to which the KKK obtained two to two and one-half million members at its apex.
The Ku Klux Klan or KKK has created centuries of fear. They originated in Pulaski, Tennessee. The famous hate group was out to re establish white supremacy. The KKK has influenced local governments and people in power. It has also had an impact on American people and specifically black minorities.
The Ku Klux Klan lynched 3,446 blacks in 86 years (Starr). The Ku Klux Klan could very well be one of the most despised hate groups that have ever existed in American history. There were three different phases of the KKK throughout time. The Second KKK has many interesting facts in its self. They came back after quitting for many years, did some very atrocious and major acts, and had eventually fallen later.

The Ku Klux Klan or also known as the KKK, is classified as a hate group, and throughout their three summit in history, they forced blacks and other minorities to live in a horrified fear that they did not deserve. The Ku Klux Klan is often times thought of as a male-dominated organization; nonetheless there is a great deal of evidence that women contributed to the Klans horrific efforts and may have created their own group labeled, “Women of the KKK”. Dating back to the year 1865, the Ku Klux Klan has acted as a gateway to hatred in America. Many of the members of this Klan have been responsible for atrocities that are extremely difficult for many people to cope with. Although this is true pertaining to their initial existence, the Klu Klux Klan was against much more than just African-Americans. During their reprise in the 1910s through 1920s they reinitialized their mission therefore turning their organization into more than just intimidation towards the African American community but they were also now against Jews, Catholics, and Immigrants, as well as African Americans. Thus leading to violent acts in these communities which lead said communities to living in fear. While most believe that government officials and police officers would be a large help to these communities it was later revealed that many legislators, police officers, and other government officials were secret klansmen.
