No Bans for Cell Phones? Liz Kolb author of Toys to Tools: Connecting Student Cell Phones to Education says it’s already taking into action. Almost 70% of schools that have had 5 year cell phone bans are now reversing their long standing bans. “First it was a very slow domino fall, and now we’re seeing more of a tidal wave”, Liz Kolb describes. I as a student believe we should stop bans for cell phones. Having cell phone in class helps so they students do not need to worry about having money to pay in order to store their device, also it can help motivate the student, and be used for educational purposes as well. Since there is a ban against cell phones in most schools still students need to store them somewhere. The only other place they can safely put away their device is to pay at an electronic storage van (which costs a dollar to store) to not get in trouble for having a phone in the classroom. Diminishing the ban will mean students can “carry their cell phones into the building and not be treated like a criminal and have to pay extra to leave it outside at the cellphone truck,” Vilson says. As proven by a studies done in cities in England, the lower achieving students are more likely to be distracted by their cell phone while higher achievers can focus just fine with a cell phone. This shows that if the lower achievers get their grades up and keep their grades up they should be allowed to use their phone, like in real life. In the real world if you do not do your job then you still have to pay bills and you don't have any money left over, however if you do your job, you will have leftover money.
