Should PE Classes Be Required Every Year of High School?

Are physical education classes healthy and helpful to have every year of high school or are they bad and unhealthy with no helpful exercise? Physical education class has a positive contribution to all people and some students like it and some don’t. Why this is a controversial topic to talk about is because half of the students in high school like PE for fun and some think that it is a boring and terrible class. Physical education classes should be required every year of high school.

According to Nanci Hellmich, in her article on “More time in PE doesn’t add up”, Hellmich states that “Just increasing the amount of time students are supposed to spend in physical education class is no guarantee they'll move more, a new study shows. “The real risk here is that states may increase the time requirements.” says John Cawley of Cornell University.”(Hellmich). Nanci Hellmich, that works for the money section of USA TODAY, explains that if teenagers give more time designated to exercise it will not make a change. This piece of evidence shows the risk is if the states have bigger time requirements. Why this is totally and obviously incorrect because increasing the time in a PE class the students will move more and there is no risk whatsoever when states will choose to increase the time requirements. According to Fairfax Media Publications, in their article on “LETTERS”. Fairfax states that “Physical education should be a core discipline in the new curriculum. Repositioning it from a key learning area to a subheading under personal development does not reflect the views of the physical education profession.”(Fairfax Media Publications). Fairfax Media Publications, a company, explains that physical education should be a core discipline. This piece of evidence shows that PE is a bad subject and that it should be a core discipline. They got it totally, completely, and absolutely wrong because physical education should never and is not a core discipline, it is a fitness class that teaches someone about and how to some sports that you have never heard or known about, keeps you in shape, bonding, and a fun subject to take. While some people believe that physical education is a bad class to take every high school year, clearly they are wrong because a lot of people want to take it every year of high school and a lot of people enjoy
