“Education is evolving due to the impact of the Internet. We cannot teach our students in the same manner in which we were taught. Change is necessary to engage students not in the curriculum we are responsible for teaching, but in school. Period.” April Chamberlain said this in 2014 about the massive influence technology has on education. Technology has been progressing and improving vastly over the past years due to advancements made in the internet. Ever since the start of its expansion, people have thought of new uses for modern technology and how to adapt technology into new situations. It is easy to agree with this statement, but it is also exceedingly hard to properly utilize the technology that is put into today's classrooms. The book Managing Technology in Higher Education, by Bates, is a book regarding successful teaching strategies for teachers that will or currently use technology in the classroom. “We discuss in several places throughout this book whether learning with technology is fundamentally different from classroom learning.”(Bates 2003) Ultimately, this book decides that classroom learning is very different from learning with technology. This book goes on about various strategies and techniques on how to teach/learn with technology. If school administrators and faculty took the initiative to encourage or make current teachers read this book, or similar books, then they could maximize the efficiency of teaching with technology. But the fact is that most teachers have little to no experience or prior training when it comes to technology. So even if technology becomes fully educationally beneficial, it will undoubtedly change within a matter of years. So when something such as chromebooks are introduced into the classroom, the teachers have no idea how to incorporate them into the curriculum competently. Teachers may be required to take refresher classes or courses, but there is no guarantee that they will be taught how to apply the new technology. Even teachers who are just coming out of college may fall behind in just a few years after graduation because of the constant progress of technology. Over half of all new teachers that go into education leave the profession in five years or less. It is also stated that the teachers who leave have higher measured academic ability than those who stay in the profession.
