“Happiness is always knocking at your door, you just gotta let it in.” -Anonymous. It feels as though everyone is on the hunt for happiness, searching for that happy feeling in their life. No wonder this is the case, because once someone has a glimpse of happiness, they desire to have more. In the New York Times wellness guides article “How to be happy - a Happy Life” written by Tara Parker-Pope on November 15, 2017, she teaches us how to create our own happy life. Parker-Pope successfully uses logos to persuade the New York Times reader from all walks of life to make the necessary steps for happiness, by using credible sources, and persuasive statistics.

The positive results were included in the generosity study, that when one has a promise to be generous with their resources they will have an “activated neural [change] related to happiness” when studying the brain. She stated that “volunteering is linked to health benefits like lower blood pressure” and that it “builds your resilience.” She concluded that volunteers have a, “22 percent lower mortality rate” than those who do not give their time to others, and there is supporting evidence for “a strong link between giving and happiness.” She also explains the self-compassion test results that when one scores high on it they, “have less depression and anxiety, and tend to be happier and more optimistic” (Parker-Pope). She tactically displayed all the benefits of making these small steps in life, and gave the appealing results to show that happiness really is possible, and all the odds are in your favor. The statistics for generosity that Parker-Pope used created a sense of desire to accomplish these benefits. These results are persuasive because they are real tests and experiments. There is nothing forged about the tests, and it's real data. People feel like they can't argue with the facts and truth, so it was genius to have a statistics based
