Strapped down to a table, wide awake, chemicals being pumped into your body with tubes. Screaming in pain, the feeling of death right around the corner grows stronger. People walk around, staring, hearing the screams of torture and agony, but just keep pumping those chemicals. This is what 115 million animals each year have to go through. Using animals for scientific testing is completely inhumane and animal cruelty. Animals being used for scientific testing traces back to 2nd and 4th centuries BCE by the Greeks. Aristotle and Erasistratus were among the first to perform experiments on living animals. The use of animals in biomedical research has since been repeated. Animals should not be used for scientific testing because the majority …show more content…
According to crueltyfreeinternational.org, “90% of drugs fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests - whether on safety grounds or because they do not work.” This means that the majority of the results that scientists get are useless. These results only work on animals and not humans, in which the tests were meant for. It is completely and utterly useless to test animals for the benefit of humans, if the conclusions that scientists get do not benefit humans. On the other hand, there have been many medical breakthroughs from the results of animal testing. Nearly every medical breakthrough involves animal testing and research. Although this is true, with the technology these days improving tremendously, our doctors and scientists could use technology and their understanding of the human body to come to the results. This will surely eliminate the use and need of animals in scientific testing. I understand that there have been many medical breakthroughs when using animal research, but that still does not deny the fact that it is a waste of animals to test them and get inaccurate results. All things considered, animals should not be used for scientific testing because when they are tested most of the results are …show more content…
The majority of the results that scientists get from using animals only work on the animals and not the humans. Also, it is animal cruelty to use animals as experiment. The scientists that use animal research are forcing these animals into immence pain. To add on, the Animal Welfare Act that is supposed to keep those animals out of harsh conditions, but only protects 5% of the animals. The other 95% of the animals are left with no protection. Not to mention, there are many alternative testing technologies that exist. For example, synthetic cellular tissue closely resembles skin and can be used for experimenting products, and humans can also be used to test the products. These alternative technologies eliminate the demand for animals. To conclude, animals have the same rights as us, just because these animals are not able to voice them does not mean those rights should be
