Bullying
Bullying is a world wide problem in today’s society. It occurs mostly to children and adolescent during school, it has a negative effort of their growth and fills their lives with fear. While some might think that bullying is a harmless behavior and it won’t cause any problem, bullying actually has long-term physical and emotional effects on the victims and also the bullies themselves.

Olweus’ definition to that is “a student is being bullied or victimized when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other students” (Olweus).

For one, school nurses need to create and promote a safe school environment, an environment where students can speak out about any concerns they have, especially bullying and any other form of violence in school. Nurses need to have the knowledge about the long-term and short-term effects of bullying on the bullies and the victims, and they need to promote that knowledge to students. Nurses also need to educate teachers, principals, and parents about school bullying, and together they need to create effective strategies to prevent bullying from happen in school (Bullying Prevention in School, p. 190). The article shows us that bullying is the most common aggressive behavior at school, and that 20 percent of high school students have experienced bullying. Students that have disabilities are more likely to experience bullying at school, and bullies choose their target based on students’ physical appearance. The major differences between cyberbullying and traditional bullying are that the bullies’ identities are hidden, adults usually don’t notice the bullying occurring, and the victims are easy to reach online. Because of these differences, there are more hurtful exchanges and comments from cyberbullying than those from traditional bullying (Burnett, Yozwiak, Omar, p, 466). Due to being able to access the internet and social media everywhere, victims of cyberbullying are not able to find a sense of safety even when they are home.
