All around the world there are bullies no matter where you look and it is becoming a problem nationwide for all kids. Bullies are different and can be different genders and be different races, bullying of all ages, and some are even hidden behind a computer. Bullying has a major impact on kids and it needs to come to an end before its too late.
According to the scholarly article from the Journal of School Health, “The Nature and Extent of Bullying at School”, There have been recent studies that have investigated the gender and racial/ethnic differences among bullies. The scholarly article from the Journal of School Health, The Nature and Extent of Bullying at School, states that “The highest levels of victimization occurred in elementary schools, with a steady decline in prevalence rates through secondary school.” Since bullying starts at such a young age, it is becoming an issue for students who are younger and younger. School bullying is linked to many social, mental, and physical factors. Additionally, the scholarly article from the Journal of School Health, states that “A relationship also exists between student bullying behavior and school issues such as academic achievement, school bonding, and absenteeism.” As bullying increases at a younger age it is affecting how kids do in school and can be harmful to their learning ability as they get older. It can be harder for young kids to feel like they fit in and even make friends at a younger age if they get bullied all the time. When bullying occurs during this stage of adolescence, an incapable barrier is usually formed by making it hard to make positive connections with other peers and teachers. According to psychologist William Pollack, "[We] live in a world in which violence can erupt at a moment's notice..." Unfortunately, this was illustrated “when a 13year-old Texas student shot herself in front of a group of fellow middle school students. Her mother said that she had been having a difficult time and that classmates "were mean to her".” Bullying should never get this bad, especially to the point of suicide. It is also very unfortunate that middle school students are often admired by their peers when they are bullying someone; and that bullied students “deserved it” or that bullying often made you “feel good”. Unlike bullies, the victimized students often demonstrate poorer social and emotional adjustment, poorer relationships with classmates, greater loneliness than bullies, and they often have a harder time making friends and fitting in.
