Through her study, she realizes that the claimed “color-blind” ideology masks the reality of racialized and color-conscious practices. As teachers, it can sometimes be easy to claim color-blindness and forget that not all students experience the world in the same way. However, cultural diversity does have an impact on the opportunities that students encounter. Thus, it is a necessity to ensure that we help our students, especially our minority students, navigate in the world. In the context of Cooper Academy, a school with a high rate of cultural diversity, it is a necessity to understand how color-blindness can negatively affect the students at the school.
