Annotated Bibliography for Critical Analysis Paper The issue relating to schools I choose to write my critical analysis paper on is, how important integrating the arts in the classroom is in order to help increase student learning outcomes. This does not specifically include having art offered as a course, but how the arts can help students of all ages and backgrounds fully understand common subjects such as: math, science, social studies, literature, or a more concentrated course. This is an important topic that needs to be addressed because while attending school I felt lost and confused during class and felt embarrassed to raise my hand to have the teacher clarify. This article was found on google scholar written by Karen DeMoss with the help of Terry Morris. DeMoss graduated with her Ph. D. from the University of Chicago and has worked for many well-known colleges in New York City. She has written countless books regarding different research topics and has been cited in many peer-reviewed academic articles, making this resource reliable. Her evaluation in this primary source is a collection of data and analysis of students showing how arts integration affected them. The purpose of this text was to show data results done on students about the relevance of art integration. According to the research, DeMoss (2002) found an increase in student achievement when art was incorporated into the learning process. Thirty students that were gathered from many classes were selected to help discover the processes and outcomes related to arts integration. The students came from three categories high, medium, and low achievers. The information in this article can be very helpful in figuring out why it is important to integrate arts in schools. Also, the findings can be helpful to figure out why it is hard for teachers to use the arts in the classroom.
