I love working with people. I enjoy working with groups to help inspire excitement and understanding of the challenge at hand, then leading them through that process. I became a Girl Scout in elementary school and this is where I began to see the importance and excitement of leadership. As a Girl Scout, our troop worked as a team on many projects that helped people, but we also had many leadership opportunities to provide encouragement and support to others to achieve the goal we had set. My leadership skills continued to grow in my band classes. For the past three years I have been the music librarian for my school band. I am responsible for memorizing the layout of the music library, handling all music, and organizing and copying parts. In the past, people would avoid this job due to the “boring” work. In my junior year, I was nominated as clarinet section leader. In that role, I worked tirelessly to lead by example, help individual players, and provide support and encouragement as they worked to improve their skills. That year, the clarinets were awarded “best section” for their hard work, good technique, and overall maturity. Now, in my senior year, I am serving as section leader for saxophone players. I believe the dedication and commitment I displayed as clarinet section leader lead to my nomination of section leader for saxophones. We had many new freshmen joining the band and my band instructor asked me to be section leader for this group due to the leadership skills I displayed when working with the clarinet section. My focus is to continue to lead by example, inspire leadership skills in my section and to continue to work with and boost each player’s
