My study abroad program has always been an integral part of what I desired from my overall college experience. It has been a strong desire of mine to be able to get out of the environment that I have always been in: being a student from the tri-state New York area surrounded by like-minded individuals, and venture out into a new learning environment. Deep down I sensed I was not getting the diversity that I would like, but a shared and similar viewpoint that was becoming worn. What I am looking for is a varied opinion from different sources whom have not had the same life experiences or group thinking that I have become accustomed to. Going to a university in another country such as England really positions me for personal growth and development. Studying with international students with different shared backgrounds and life experiences will give me a keen insight and help me to develop more as a person and young adult. Being in a new environment, country and on my own will be very important for my personal growth. I like the idea that I will now be forced to navigate a new country as well as make new decisions on my own; away from my family and certainly distanced from the comfortable confines of Emory University. This appeals to me because I am being put in a new situation where I am forced to truly live on my own. I have been raised by two supportive parents that have always made or strongly guided me to make decisions. While I am in England, those decisions are now made by me.
