Shanghai is my homeland, which is a worldwide global financial center. Due to its geographical location and historical background, citizens are easily exposed to Western culture. Although all of this information can be seen in books and films, I wanted to explore and experience this first hand. My two passions in life drew me to America. While some of my college classmates looked for jobs, others just followed their parents. I, however, chose University of Michigan because it is the only school in Michigan where a student can receive a well-qualified Mathematics education and also watch amazing basketball games, the two overwhelming passions in my life. I have been playing basketball since I was ten years old. My brother had a basketball, which he let me fool around with when I was a child. I still have that ball and have learned to play well over the years. University of Michigan’s basketball team has been well known since 1991, when famous Fab Five was the greatest class ever recruited. I decided to study math when I was in middle school because I excelled in proving theorems and postulates of geometry, compared to other subjects.
