Computer science and engineering have always been an immense portion of my life since I have grown up in a heavily, technologically influenced world. In an academic university, I want to advance my knowledge in mechanical engineering by majoring in it in college and coding by becoming fluent in several languages. The encouragement of girls into a STEM field is a cause that I have been advocating for in high school and middle school through the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) and by being on all-girls Girl Scout FLL and FTC teams. Since I have had a myriad of strong, encouraging women in my life who have influenced me to go into the STEM fields, I want to continue advocating for women and girls in STEM throughout …show more content…

By being on this team, I learned that leadership is not just someone dictating what needs to be done and watching while they complete the tasks. It’s about being part of the process and helping when help is needed. I can assist in tasks by plainly asking what they are having a difficult time building or programming. By communicating one on one with each team member, I knew them much better and we all have become a close family. I actually discovered that food and talking out our difficulties can solve the majority of issues. I also learned to play off the strengths of our team and work diligently to improve their weaknesses such as time management. As a leader, I assisted team members with building objects oriented for PTC Creo and Auto desk Revit as well as taught them how to create custom made pieces using Google Sketch-Up. I guided and mentored several other FTC teams with robot design, CAD and code. The teams and I met during their weekly meetings where I would guide their decisions in order that they assemble a successful robot. FIRST is not just a place and it has inspired me and numerous others to take action against the challenges we are face
