Although this particular source disagreed with my statement about easing the immigration process, this source could serve as a counter argument on my paper. The article “Yes, Immigration Hurts American Workers” on www.politico.com was written by George J Borjas. George J Borjas is an American economist who worked as a professor at Harvard University. He is also described as “America’s leading immigration economist.” Since this article was written by a professor who knows the effect immigration brings to the economy, this source can safely considered as reliable. In this article, the professor addressed the problems that immigration brought to America's economy. While he acknowledges some benefits that immigrants brought to America, he noted some negative effects that immigration brought in as well. He addressed that as immigrants come into the United States, the wage for workers drops. As more immigrants come in, the supply of workforce increased. Based on the supply demand curve, the more supply one gets, the higher chance that the economy will have a surplus and a decrease in wage. I believe that immigration process should be much easier, but I also need to take in consideration of the negative impacts that immigration could cause to America’s economy. After stating my thesis statement in my paper about what I believe how the immigration should be, I would use this source to counter argue my statements. By doing so, my paper would not be biased despite of my background experience with the subject matter. I could also use this source to my advantage as well.
