Childhood Obesity
Right now in the world over 12.5 million children are obese. In the last 30 years, the rate of obesity has tripled and this number seems to be only getting larger. Good nutrition is necessary for everyone but is especially important for children who are growing and for their developing brain.
Obesity seems to be killing more people than we ever thought obesity accounts for over 18% of all deaths America. From a 2010 study, it showed that more Americans died from being overweight than people dying that year because of Cancer. The annual medical cost of obesity in New Zealand is estimated to be around $849 million dollars every year. If we continue to raise our children on these poor diets our next generation will continue to become more unhealthy and overweight. The current obesity crisis seems to be only getting worse and the more we subject our next generation while to this unhealthy lifestyle they may continue this path of bad eating habits and possibly heart diseases and even premature death. Not only are kids becoming more unhealthy but they are growing up to become unhealthy adults.

Although obesity can run in families and people with family backgrounds of being overweight are at a higher risk of becoming that way themselves. But this is also linked to families eating shared diets and having similar exercise habits. Only around 2% of children in America eat a healthy balanced diet. We are currently at risk of raising overweight children who may become sicker and may even die younger than the generation before
