What defines a person's idea of safety? For most people that ask that question the first thing that usually comes to mind is protection and guns are a good means of that. The United States has eighty eight guns per one hundred people, or about two hundred and seventy million guns, which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. Twenty two percent of americans own one or more guns; thirty five percent are men and twelve percent are women. The two main reasons for so many guns is that hunting and personal defense has become commonplace in our society. There is also an ongoing debate at whether there are too many restrictions or too less on guns. Supporters of more gun control laws state that the second amendment was intended for the early day militias.
