The government tries to scare youth away from using marijuana, but resent research that indicates no correlation between violence and marijuana helps disprove this myth. The high associated with marijuana does not provoke violence, nor does it cause people to interact with other illegal activity. Associating marijuana users with criminal activity is not only wrong because countless evidence proves otherwise, but it also promotes the unjust stereotyping of people who use the plant. The perception that cannabis is a harmful drug has been prominent for generations, causing people to have a hard time believing that marijuana has any true positive medicinal benefits. While there maybe some studies done on the harmful effects of cannabis smoke, there isn’t a substantial amount of research to prove that cannabis smoke causes cancer. To defuse this opposing view further, smoking the cannabis plant is not the only way to consume the medicine. Other methods to consume marijuana include edibles, concentrates, topical solutions, and even gum or mint solutions. There are many other less harmful ways to consume marijuana, allowing for regular or frequent users to not have to worry about their health every time they need their medicine. Additionally, other studies show that marijuana can be an addictive drug and could lead some people to become dependent on the plant. While this new evidence does suggest some correlation between marijuana and addiction, certain people are more likely to become addicted to something for hereditary reasons alone. Furthermore, humans can become addicted to almost anything, from sex to sugar, and most importantly to alcohol. Our brains latch on to the particular feelings associated with these activities, thirsting for more after each event has ended. One must simply use marijuana in moderation, just as someone must use alcohol sparingly too or else they will become addicted to these substances. Yes, while I agree using marijuana daily can lead to an addiction to the drug, I firmly believe that marijuana is just as addictive as everyday substances, such as sugar and
