It is not a secret that teachers' pay has fallen short behind other professions. Many first-year instructors in the United States can anticipate earning a wage of under $40,000. Teachers play such a crucial role in students' lives, and they are not getting paid nearly enough for what they do. Teachers are the educators of our nations; our future depends on them. Where would we be without educators? Teachers do not choose the career based on the pay that they are given; they choose to become teachers because they have a love and a passion for their students. They spend countless hours preparing lesson plans, grading papers, providing individual attention to students and so much more. They often work long hours staying after school or coming in early or staying late to provide extra help for students who need it. Teachers are underpaid for a variety of reasons. The hourly salary on which these researchers base a teacher's pay is only based on the hours that the educator is present at school which is the first thing that these researchers neglect to disclose is they do not account for the time teachers spend working at home or off the clock. A teacher often works 20 more hours on Sundays than any other profession yet these hours are not compensated for or recorded in the pay schedule for instructors. Throughout my years in school, I have always heard my teachers mention that they came into school over the weekend to prepare lessons for that week. Teachers have to put so much effort into their work, so why are they not getting the praise that they deserve? The excessive number of homework and tasks that they must grade or generate for the previous and next workdays is the cause of the heavy workload at home. According to the article titled 2021 Teacher Spending Survey it states “Teachers spent an average of $750 on school supplies out of pocket during the 2020-2021 school year. The highest amount ever. 30% of teachers spent $1,000 or more on school supplies.” By paying teachers more, we can help to ensure that they have the resources they need to provide a high-quality education to their students. School supplies are not cheap, and the school only provides a little bit of money, so that means teachers are supplying and paying for school supplies even when they may not have the funds
