Arguments Against Animal Testing

793 Words4 Pages

If animals feel pain the same way humans do, why do we test on them, but reject the idea of testing on other people? The simple fact is, animal testing, no matter what it’s for, is inhumane. The case of animal testing is either overlooked or not being pushed hard enough. The controversy surrounding animal testing includes; the harming done to the animals’, supplementary forms that could/ should replace almost all animal testing, and why we shouldn’t use animals to test drugs because they differ from us genetically. Using companion animals to test our medical differences is completely absurd. People shouldn’t have the right to use other living forms for their own “good”. Whether we have or haven't cured many medical conditions using animals, …show more content…

“ Animals and humans biologically differ from each other. So the results from animal experiments can’t be applied accurately to humans” (Chang). “The human body- indeed most living systems- is extremely complex. This is why animals are not good models for human medicine. Humans differ from animals anatomically, genetically, and metabolically, meaning information from animals can’t be compared to humans accurately” (Pycroft).“ Even genetically modified, there isn’t a single animal model that can copy the complex human structure” (Pycroft). Since humans have such complex living systems is it safe to test drugs on these animals, knowing it could have a completely different reaction to humans. “We differ on the cellular and molecular level, which is where ideas occurs” later the article states “ Animal and human biological systems are different. Their reactions not just to chemicals being tested, but also food, can be very different.” (Burnett) Is really safe to put drugs, among other things, on the shelves knowing it could be extremely dangerous or cause side effects? We know it’s definitely not safe for the animals during, or after these
