Testing on animals became widespread until the 1800’s, but was introduced earlier on. Although animal experimentation was not a debatable topic at first, it soon became highly controversial. There has been an ongoing debate on whether experimenting on animals should be prohibited or continued. Many people claim that experimenting on animals is inhumane and has no purpose. Throughout the years, however, there have been many medical and pharmaceutical advancements as a result of these experiments (Driscoll). The benefits of testing on animals are mostly seen in the improvements of medical treatments, such as HIV drugs and antibiotics. Accidents can happen to anyone, at any time and place. Sometimes the injuries caused by the accident may be minor, but other injuries can be categorized as catastrophic. Whether it’s falling off your bike, crashing into a wall, or slipping down the stairs, serious injuries may result and put your life in danger. Due to experiments that have been performed in the past, scientists have been able to discover different techniques that allow doctors to treat some minor injuries. Unfortunately, scientists have not successfully found ways to treat some major injuries. Quadriplegia, an injury that paralyzes the torso and limbs, is a major injury that may result from a car crash. Although scientists have not found a cure for quadriplegia Paul believes that “Cutting-edge research on regenerating damaged nerves may one day unlock the secret, and ER doctors will then be able to offer many of these victims a brighter future than a life of severe impairment of major bodily functions.” Scientists are coming closer and closer to unlocking the secret to this major injury, but this wouldn’t be the first time that these experiments make progress in medical research, and other areas as
